NOVEMBER 7 & 8 REMINDER?USBA LEVEL I OFFICIAL?S TRAINING & TRI-STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ? NOVEMBER 7 & 8 On Saturday, November 7, the Pennsylvania Biathlon Club will host a USBA Level I Official?s Training Seminar instructed by Russ Myer. The following day, Sunday, November 8, we will host the annual Tri-State Summer Biathlon Championship. We still have room for more participants in the clinic on November 7. So, if you plan to join us and have not already notified me, please send me an email as soon as possible so that we have a head count to plan for materials. This is an effort that I am fully behind and I encourage all who are interested in supporting biathlon in our region to attend. The USBA Level I Official's Certification includes an open book test of 50 questions that follows the course. It is rather straightforward. The cost is $10/person (payable on the day of the clinic). The manual for the course can be downloaded http://www.biathlonworld3.de/en/download-federation.html and printed or saved to your laptop. This USBA Level I Official?s Training is a great opportunity for all the clubs in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey to begin developing a core group of much needed officials to elevate the quality, consistency and fairness of our summer and winter events. An outline of the day?s schedule is included below to give everyone a heads-up on what will be covered. With all the great coaches and biathletes that will be present, you can expect a great collaborative course. The course is USBA sponsored. Level I certification enables one to officiate an array of summer/winter events from local to national caliber. The certification also permits one to sit for a level II credential...then to a International Referee / Technical Delegate if so desired USBA LEVEL I OFFICIAL?S CERTIFICATION SEMINAR - AGENDA 9:00 AM Introductions and course overview 9:30 AM Biathlon safety, history and competition structure 9:45 AM Competition Committee outline and duties Competition Committee Organizing Committee 10:00 AM Skiing / Running rules for Biathlon 10:15 AM Shooting rules for Biathlon 11:00 AM Timing rules and penalties 11:30 AM Biathlon Competition forms 12:00 PM Understanding Biathlon Competition equipment Competition equipment Athletes equipment Support equipment 12:30 PM Lunch 1:00 PM Biathlon Facilities Course ? walk a section and look at markings and junctions Stadium ? review all set up requirements and distances and set up a stadium Range - review all set up requirements and distances and set up a range 2:50 PM Review and Q & A 3:00 PM Open-Book Exam With the late addition of one race, there are just three races remaining on the domestic schedule for 2009. The first is a mass start race at Jericho, Vermont on October 31. The second is the pursuit format race in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania on November 8. This race will also serve as the 2009 Tri-State Championship between Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey. In addition to a novice sprint race, the match class race will determine the individual and team champion of those three states. There will be awards for the top male and female finisher from each state, as well as the top male and female shooter from each state. Finally, at stake will be the annual inscription on the traveling state championship trophy. The state champion will be determined as follows. First place will be awarded as many points as there are competitors from the three involved states. Second place will be awarded one less point. And so on, through last place, who will be awarded one point. 10/31, Jericho, VT Mass Start Running Cross Biathlon and Interval Start Mountain Bike Biathlon E-Mail: eabiathlon at gmail.com Website: www.eabiathlon.org 11/8, Whitetail Preserve, Black Creek Township, Luzerne County, PA TRI-STATE CHAMPIONSHIP - NJ, NY, PA Frank Gaval 570-788-4219 barb123 at ptd.net Website: www.pabiathlon.org Douglas E.
